Why is Fluoride in our Drinking water?
For years our dentists and public health professionals have been telling us that fluoride is safe and that it helps build up strong teeth and reduces the risk of cavities in the mouth. Fluoride in our drinking water was introduced to help families that didn’t have the ability to get regular dental care, while it has been proven and shown that fluoridation decreases the number of dental cavities in the mouth, these studies are shown to be “low” or “moderate” quality when reviewed.
“Dr. Arvid Carlsson of Sweden, a Nobel Prize winner, has stated publicly that it’s possible and even probable that fluoride can benefit teeth when applied topically but that it is “against modern pharmacology” to think there’s anything beneficial about ingesting the substance, particularly because the disparity in how much a single person consumes is so vast.”
While this practice of ingesting fluoride may be beneficial to our teeth, it may be taking a toll on other systems of our body that may be breaking down.
Do the benefits of fluoride for our teeth outweigh the dangerous long-term side effects on other systems of our body? Here are a few harmful effects it has.
How fluoride is harmful to our bodies-
Places where fluoride is found-
Not only is fluoride found in our dental products and our water but can also be found in natural and unnatural sources. There are a few that might surprise you!
How to Avoid Fluoride-
While fluoride may be all around us, here are a few ways you can stay away from this harmful substance. Eat organic food. Many pesticides that are being sprayed on crops contains fluoride. Also, stay away from processed foods. The more processed it is, the more likely it is to have fluoride in it. Purchase a good water filter. Not all water filters are created equal, some will not even filter out any fluoride. The best ones to go with are the reverse osmosis, deionizers, and activated alumina. Get rid of toothpaste or mouthwash that contains fluoride. Children at a young age should not be ingesting any fluoride. And last but not least stay informed. Keep up to date on what is going on in your community. If there is fluoride in your water then take a stand, let your local leaders know the dangers of what fluoride is really doing to our bodies. Consider one or all of these options as you look to living a long and healthy lifestyle.
