Turmeric-

When I think about Turmeric, the thing that comes to mind is the wonderful aroma spice that brings a vibrant yellow color to many Indian dishes like curry, rice, and other ethnic foods. Not only is this herb very colorful and tasteful but it provides many healing benefits to the human body that are safe and effective and don’t bring harsh side effects like other over the counter medicines.

History of Turmeric-

Turmeric started to emerge in 500 BCE and became a very important part of Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurvedic medicine was used by our Indian ancestors to help heal body ailments naturally and quickly.  Wounds and skin conditions like chickenpox and shingles could be treated with this very healing herb. Ayurveda translates to “science of life”– ayur meaning “life” and veda meaning “science or knowledge.”

“Ayurvedic literature contains over 100 different terms for turmeric, including jayanti, meaning “one who is victorious over diseases,” and matrimanika, meaning “as beautiful as moonlight.” As you can see this herb had very healing properties in it that strengthen and soothe the body. Today, we are still seeing many of these healing benefits used in more ways than one.

Benefits of Turmeric-To name a few

The most powerful substance contained in this herb is called curcumin, which is known most for its renowned healing compounds. Not only is this powerful herb destroying all forms of cancer cells, (which is HUGE)  but it is also potentially reversing disease, common diseases like depression, arthritis, and diabetes! This is BIG news to anyone who suffers from these diseases or situations where their pain may be unbearable. In addition to reversing common diseases, it also reduces inflammation in the body, can be used to treat skin conditions like psoriasis, or eczema, and can also promote healthy weight loss.

In some studies that have been done, it has been proven that using turmeric versus conventional medication can be more beneficial. So, the next time you or someone you know is struggling with any of the issues mentioned above, grab some turmeric from your local grocery store and reap the benefits that this amazing herb has to offer
