On the plus side - sugar alcohols have fewer calories than sugar. Sugar alcohol will not elevate your blood sugar levels as much as sugar and could even help prevent tooth decay.

Where are sugar alcohols found? Most sugar-free gums, mints, and mouthwashes contain sugar alcohol called xylitol. It also contains about 40% fewer calories than sugar.

Sorbitol can be found in most sugar-free food, drinks, and candy. If you are counting calories, this is a good one to use. It is sweeter than sugar but contains 60% fewer calories!

The last and probably the best one out there is erythritol. Erythritol could be argued to have the best taste of all sugar alcohols. It is found in most alternative sweeteners and is great to have around for baking and cooking. This sugar alcohol is absorbed in the bloodstream and does not show signs affecting your insulin and blood sugar levels.
