We’re taught that as humans, we’re all created equal. Whether you believe that to be true or not, one thing we all can agree on is that caffeine isn’t made equal.
When you drink a cup of coffee, you’re given an entirely different energy than when you drink an energy drink. And if you’ve ever drank a cup of Matcha (if you haven’t, you need to!), you’ll notice a difference in your energy levels as well when compared to drinking these other two caffeinated beverages, as well as from regular green tea.
So how much caffeine is in green tea? On average, an 8 oz. cup of green tea that’s made with 2g of tea has 25mg of caffeine, while an 8 oz. cup of brewed coffee has 163mg of caffeine. In a 2g serving of Ujido’s Matcha green tea, there are 44mg of caffeine, and a 3.5 oz bag of Ujido’s Organic Matcha has 50 servings, which equals 1,100mg of caffeine for the entire bag. This size of bag’s caffeine total is equal to you drinking 40 cans of Diet Mt. Dew.
How Matcha’s Caffeine Differs
Besides looking and tasting different than coffee and other teas, the caffeine used in Matcha also works differently. It works harmoniously with all the good ingredients in Matcha, such as antioxidants, amino acids and phytonutrients. When you put all these together, Matcha drinkers receive the remarkable ability to focus and be productive for several hours.
This effect is great because unlike with coffee or energy drink energy bursts, there’s no jittery feeling nor is there an “afternoon crash” like many of these latter drinkers experience since Matcha’s caffeine molecules are released over a period of time instead of all at once.
